I think kthe kids and I are going to try making the No Knead bread. My mom has her grandmothers old cast iron dutch oven and we are going to use that next week or the week following when we go down for a visit.
Oh my gosh, how funny! I felt the same way about the Amish friendship bread!
It eventually took over my kitchen, i ran out of friends, the freezer, fridge and bread box were full, and my kids refused to eat it anymore. We kept it going for about 6 months, but sheesh, it got to be a chore! I really did like it though, it was most tasty and i acutally was thinking about trying to locate some a few months ago, but alas, i did not

I've had mine at least that long too.....I wonder if she has any connection to "The Land Institute" in Salina Kansas. It was their newsletter I got it out of.
Funny I was just going to ask about the SD starter. I had some back in 2000 did many loafs out of it. It was given to me from my bf aunt. Now I wish I had some more. Has anyone every started there own?
One of our fav breads here is a veggie bread that we do when we harvest the zuccinni. Its about they only way I will it zucc now. You can make it with squash and pumkin also. Uses alot of them so it is perfect for gardeners.
I just started a SD starter 2 days ago. This is the first time.
I've also got a Russian black bread in my bread machine. I will bake it in the oven though.
I use them in the winter, because I don't have a consistent warm spot for the bread to raise. The great thing is you can pour the ingredients in the bucket in the morning and set the timer to have just-finished bread when you get home. If your late, the thing shuts off automatically.

See that's why I was thinking I would like it. My 2 year old needs a lot of attention, he is so naughty. I thought if it would do all the work for me I'd be more likely to make a lot more bread.
