I have a lovely little flock of 11 random chickens.
Some fully feathered Pekins, Silkies and 2 Apenzellers.
My query is about my 7 week old Brahma, he is feathering so slowly that he has grown out of his chick fluff, he looks like he's preparing himself for the pot!!!
There is definitely growth and there are new feathers round the neck and down chest but is this normal??

Totally normal for some.
The dinosaur stage is what i call it.

For some, its the breed and for others it has to do with the slow feathering or fast feathering gene they received from their parents.

Thank you. He does look very odd.
I've had to transfer them to the tractor as the others are all ready to go out so rigged a heat lamp as didn't want to separate him out. They are all happy as pigs in proverbial.
