This evening I was outside and saw a Bald Eagle across the road watching my ducks. Thankfully I saw this and put them away. I know that there is a law to protect livestock where you can kill predators even if they are protected species but does this extend to the national bird?

You cannot kill any federally protected species even if it's attacking your livestock unless you have a permit to do so. Contact your local Game Warden.

That is what I thought but I had seen or read something about people in Alaska where they can kill bear or wolves if it is hunting their livestock. I put everything away that didn’t have overhead cover. I did find it interesting that everything that didn’t ha e overhead cover i.e the ducks and free range turkeys found cover without being prompted.

I think you would get in trouble for a bald eagle.

You'd get in trouble for even cutting down a tree it was building a nest in. A bald eagle's nest was enough to stop construction of flood lights on a school's athletic field near an uncle's house, for example.

True. We have Bald Eagles here too. There is a lake with hammocks at the bottom of the hill we live on and they build nests out there. They are protected.
