Hi, Haven't posted in a while......here's my predicament.......
I have eight chickens. One is a barred rock and acts healthy, albeit quite sqawkey; which is her name. She's always been quite vocal. A few days ago I noticed some bare patches on here rear side.
A closer look and I also saw some bald spots on her underside. All spots seemed a bit red with a little dry scaling. Originally, I thought she was just molting. But, I am worried this might be something more.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really respect this site.

Not too much. I've only seen them give her a peck in the head to get her away from food. Now I have a separate place for her and a couple of others to eat so they are spread out. She does have some missing feather at the top though. But not much.
The bald spots on her belly are about 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide. On her butt. are about 3 inches tall and 1 inch wide. She does seem to be molting at her wings.

Is there a rooster among your flock? Have you checked her over for mites and lice? You may have to check the roost she usually sleeps on as well, as some don't live on the chicken but come out at nite for a blood meal. I'm trying to picture the locations you described and those seem to match typical chicken "itchy spots" especially if bugs are present.

No rooster. And the other seven hens only show typical molting signs. I did check her for mites and lice and haven't found anything yet. And,also the roost. Just to be safe I re-applied DE. I am in New Mexico so it is dry and hot. She is the only Barred Rock in the bunch. She does squawk a lot (so her name is Squawkey) but, she always has. Interestingly enough, she, currently, is the only one on the roost. The others that used to roost are now on top of the nesting box. Except one, which is a Buff Orpington which insist on being on the ground with the shavings. The others all look fine and a few are just moulting. I'll try to post a pic in a little while showing her bald patches.
I really appreciate this. I love all my girls!
