Beaky, our one-eyed cross beak cockerel, wandered off yesterday and unfortunately did not find his way back (per the one-eyed and probably deaf on that side thing). We are assuming at this point he was predated by a coyote. Does kind of redo our male to female ratio in a positive direction, but damn. He was boyfriend’s favorite and if we didn’t keep him, well he was quite thick and would have made a wonderful dinner. RIP Beaky

(I guess there is a chance he could come wandering back, but not likely.)

Quoting myself to add, he had a good life. We took him as a freebie from the feed store. They would have culled him for his deformity. Instead, he lived for 5 1/2 months with his friends, and was accepted, despite his differences. Never saw a single one bully him. He was a good lad.

Warm and hot weather is when the sap runs. Winter is when all trees here go dormant.

When a branch is damaged it leaks sap, esp in Spring when the tree awakens and floods it’s system with sap. It’s sticky and hard to get rid of.

All trees will leak sap but pine trees are just really bad!
They will leak in the winter, too, if damaged. Pines don't go completely dormant in the winter. But you are correct, generally they leak most in warmer months.....or whenever damaged....even if it is just a small puncture in the bark.

Tax:
A picture of an exchequer leghorn (not mine, unfortunately....My little Apache has a funky 'cowlick' of a feather on her head! so cute/funny!

I lost a roo that looked just like him. This was Rudy, and he never came back. I loved him dearly as well: IMG_5055.jpeg

Mr. Wyandottey didn’t like the puns either. He just jumped up on his water dish and spilled the whole thing on the floor, taking the feed bowl with it! Water and feed everywhere :barnie:smack
Telling you to spend some time thinking up more puns while cleaning the mess?
