Quoting myself to add, he had a good life. We took him as a freebie from the feed store. They would have culled him for his deformity. Instead, he lived for 5 1/2 months with his friends, and was accepted, despite his differences. Never saw a single one bully him. He was a good lad.
They will leak in the winter, too, if damaged. Pines don't go completely dormant in the winter. But you are correct, generally they leak most in warmer months.....or whenever damaged....even if it is just a small puncture in the bark.
