Ballerinas!!🩰 (and other dancers 😁)

Hello!! I’m 17 and I trained in tap dance from 6-11 years old and ballet (extremely bad teacher) from 11-15 years old, and ballet with an ex professional from 15-17 years. I quit this last May because I have weird hips and it hurt to do the splits, grande battements, and developpes. But I still LOVE ballet and my best friend is a male ballet dancer that is going for pro!
That's so cool! I still don't have my splits yet  I'm trying to get to them by the end of this year. Ballet isn't really my favorite but it's super cool that you enjoy it! Hopefully your hips aren't impeding any other fun things for you.

I baby say a little girl many years ago who could do the splits both directions and could put both her feet behind her head. "Sally, come look at me!" Left foot up, right foot up, behind her head, her laughing. I don't know if she ever got into dance or gymnastics, but wow, was she limber.

Man, the splits! They are hard enough already, but I’m sure it hurt way worse for your hips :( Especially grande battements, it took me a long time to find out how to do them correctly in the first place. Who did you train with from 15-17? And also that’s awesome for your friend!

That’s how I found out I liked acro! I was upside so much of the time in my childhood, my mom enrolled me into acro right away šŸ˜‚

I trained with Gina Domenchelli Illingworth. She’s mostly retired now, she just has a really small studio in a really small town, but she used to be a soloist in the Norwegian National ballet. And yes, grande battements are so hard to do correctly and get the leg high enoughšŸ˜‚

Damn french- it took me this long to figure out how 'grande battement' is pronounced out loud. I really like them, actually-they're not too difficult (my technique is crap for most things, so that's probably the reason) and it's a nice break. Sometimes we do them REALLY fast in jazz, though. My jazz teacher likes to take songs and speed them up to make it harder for us.

Yeah I agree, I was just saying they were hard when I first learned them lol. Also my Jazz teacher puts on a high speed cardio workout playlist and makes us do grande battements, toe touches in a circle, etc šŸ˜‚

Our workout is lots of core strength, leg strength, and cardio. Best/worst part is when we have to do pushups with one leg in passe (i can't spell dance words so if that's spelled wrong sorry) and your foot BETTER BE POINTED OR ELSE. We do lots of tendu and degage en croix over and over with our arms held in second. If we drop our arms we get weights sometimes.

Nice!
Our Jazz warmup is this:
1 song stretch
1 song cardio
1 song squats
1 song crunches
1 song planks
1 song pliƩs
1 song tendus and dƩgagƩs
1 song grande battements
1 song fondu
1 song relevƩs
1 song arm strengthening
1 song high speed toe touching in a circle
Then we carry on with class. And same, if we don’t have straight legs, pointed feet, or correctly rotated arms, we have to either hold plank until the instructor says so or something else (depending on how the instructor is feeling that day haha)
