Banning pit bulls in Ohio

Windsor, Ontario, CAnanda, already has a pit bull ban, as do alot of Canadian cities. Those who currently own them must meet certain criteria (muzzle when out in public, spay/neutered ,insurance, etc. Plus other things I am not aware of. No pitbulls are to be purchased, sold, and owners are encouraged to drop their pit bulls off to the humane society for euthanization.
this is WRONG. But since pit bull owners are not that strong in #s, ALL ppl, pet owners and non pet owners need to voice their protest to this proposed ban

At least people were allowed to keep their beloved pets in that case... in Denver when BSL was passed people couldn't get their beloved dogs out of the city fast enough and many were euthanized

Peoples' beloved and well cared for family pets. BSL is so incredibly flawed, it's amazing that any city has agreed to put it into place.

Regardless of the law, just know, once they take your rights away... you will probably NEVER get them back. And once they start thinking it's ok to ban Pit Bulls, they will turn on other breeds as well..... Rotts, Dobermans, Chows, Mastiffs...... even IF BSL was successful, which it's NOT because irresposible and criminal people do not obey laws to begin with, even if ALL pit bulls were erraticated, another breed would take that role as "Macho wear" or "Junkyard dog" ... another breed that will then be the next target of the media.

I'm not niave, I know what power breeds are capable of, but I also know that responsible ownership is the key. Responsible breeding is bringing them back to family companion instead of monster breed.

This is a FREE country, I want to maintain my rights to own what breeds I choose.

Yeah, BSLs are really starting to go over the top. I live in Western, NY and although there's aren't any BSLs in the area, insurance companies either try to tax people more or completely cut them off insurance depending if they believe the breed of dog is too aggressive (doesn't matter on the individual dog...just on the breed as a whole).

I know I mentioned this is a post a while ago, but we adopted our current dog from a local SPCA shelter. The adoption papers said she was a GSD/Lab... well it's not lab in her; everyone assumed she had pit in her... our homeowners insurance company somehow found of about our "pit mix" tried to tax us more. It was horrible. They didn't care about the GSD in her...just at the possibility of her having pit blood in her. Anyways, to make a long story short, we got a DNA test and turns out that there is not pit in her...

Later we find out she's a GSD/American Dingo mix! lol!

So back to focusing on pit bulls and other bully breeds. I have come across many, and for the most part they have all been beautifully tempered, very lovable, and smart; however I have came across a few that would have taken my neck off if gotten the chance. When it comes to dogs, it's all about properly training, socializing, and "good breeding." Any breed of dog can be aggressive.

What signals the bully breeds out is their over all look and strength. Most bully breeds were "created" to be strong working and hunting dogs. Plus, they have the characteristic "lock jaw" bite. What makes it worse, is that some people associate owning "scary" looking dogs and potentially dangerous dogs as having greater power.... as a result many of these breeds fall into the wrong hands, ultimately leading to a bad reputation on the breed as a whole.

I think BSLs are stupid. Every year it seems like a different breed of dog is targeted... if things like this keep happening, it seems like they're eventually just going to outlaw dogs all together...

I have been around all types of dogs, including pit bulls. They only dog that has EVER snapped at me was a POODLE!!! A very very very small poodle.

Ban ignorant morons is what I say. That's being dog racist! They won't be able to pass that law, if they do then I am truly shocked at what our country is turning into!

I live in Ohio and am irrate over this. I have heard about dogs being seized and destroyed in communist countries, but never imagined it would happen in America.
I had only heard about this earlier today, but will contact my representatives and let them know that this bill is way out of line.
I don't own a pitbull, have no desire to own one, but by gosh I don't want to see any person having there animals seized and destroyed by the government. And that politician is way out of line in even proposing to do so.
I'm fuming big time.

We need more people like you Skyesrocket, that realize that this is NOT about pit bulls, but about protecting our rights as US citizens to make our own choices. When you start letting the Government decide things on this kind of a level, you open the door for them to take away even more rights! The Government does not get to decide which breed of dog I can own... period! They certainly should not have the right to seize and destroy family pets like they are attempting to do.

Many of you would be horribly irrate if the government came in seized and destroyed all of your chickens because of a potential pandemic.... imagine if they decided that certain chicken breeds were "more susceptible" and seized and destroyed every one of them just based on this possibility without fact or proof! That is what BSL is doing to dogs.

You can contact Ohio's house leaders and tell them if they pass this law then they're all a bunch of communist A-holes. Then stop voting for these commie morons.

Ugh . . . I get so frustrated, thinking of all the great things that leaders could do instead of trying to find ways to dictate our choices. Pit bulls make up about half the dogs at any given time at a dog park I like to go to, and I never think twice about unclipping my terriers to run free with them. It's the nasty little toy dogs that are always causing fights, simply because they're so small the owners conveniently "forget" to train them and teach them manners. It's easier for people to ignore aggression when the thing attacking you is the size of fish bait. I'll start breathing easier the day Texas bans ownership of chihuahuas . . . I've never met a pit that can equal one of those little suckers in fierceness.
