Bantam ate silica gel packet beads

Try to find one article written by a veterinarian that says garlic is safe for chickens. FYI, the chicken chicks website if full of misinformation. :(

This is from a vet website:

Pet bird or chicken, it doesn't matter.

Well, ok, have it your way.

I only feed small amounts, so I don't think it'll kill them

As I said before, glad yours are fine... it just doesn't mean it is safe to feed to birds... others may give more not knowing that more is harmful...

My bantam ate silica packet gel beads. I don't know if I should be worried or not. I have lots of water and fresh greens to hopefully flush them out. Any thoughts on what may happen? Or what I should do?
If your chicken ate just the beads it should be fine. :D

Side note, broilers have a very short and limited lifespan...
Yes it was scientifically studied on boilers, but the article points out the positive aspect of using garlic in poultry. It's has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. It also did not harm the chickens. Holistic veterinary text books also speak of the positive aspects of garlic. It can be harmful in some animals such as swine and in other animals especially if given in higher doses. Like any medication and herb you can give too much.

I am not arguing what any one person decides to give their flock, that is their decision... nor am I saying that there isn't beneficial qualities to certain things... just pointing out that even beneficial things can have harmful side effects... and avian specialists warn of toxicity to birds, so it isn't something I would blanket recommend to others as good for birds...
