We are looking at adding Bantam Brahmas to our tiny flock.

We are wondering if all the bantam rules apply to this more docile breed. Are they flighty? Will they be tempted to scale a 4 ft fence (or jump the 6 ft fence into the neighbor's yard)? Would trimming the wings be enough to discourage this?

Fencing is our biggest concern but also wondering if they lay like the standard Brahmas - just smaller? (2-3 per week)

I'm speaking for LF brahmas here. I know mine wouldn't really attempt to just even a 1 foot fence. Mine are big, fat, and lazy. As far as egg production goes I get about 1 egg every other day.

I'm not surprised with such large lovely ladies

. At 2 lbs I am expecting the bantams to be a bit more spry. We were looking at Brahmas but our space is limited so I'm thinking the bantams may be a better fit - presuming we can keep them in the chicken yard. I am pleased to hear they lay 3-4 each week. Hoping the bantams lay that well too.

Yeah a ten pound hen does tend to be a little bit of a space eater LOL. The more I get into breeding the more I think bantams might have been the better choice....... for the simple reason of: I could cram more into the same space

. I think I'm crossing over the obsessive border into the hoarding

We are city dwellers just getting into chickens and I can already tell we may tip over into the hoarder realm once we retire and move out into the country. DH just finished our coop and yard last week and I'm already showing him plans for chicken breeding pens for our future home.

Poor guy! Luckily he is having fun at this too.

Any bantam owners that can give me insight into their flying urges?
