Hey all! So I'm super interested in adding Cochin bantams to the mix (I'm a first time chicken mom this year, LF only). I have a few questions though. First, can I safely integrate bantams with LF? Second, I've only found straight run bantams - how do you deal with the potential for 50%+ roos? Do banty roos behave differently than LF roos? Or do you still need to re-home/cull etc. the extra roos?

My experience is the bantams do fine with LF if they are free range not sure about run birds. I also had large roos with bantam roos with no problem. Bantams are quick and can get away if needed. I never had a problem. You can eat bantams just the same as LF. I never keep more than three roos at a time. Also look carefully at the wings check the rows of feathers three rows would suggest cockerel

My bantam cochin roos are usually very mellow, I've only had one display any human aggression. My main rooster has always been a great father with little ones. Until his sons grow up and think they can challenge him.

Last fall I ended up with a ton of cockerels and made a bachelor pen. They lived very happily together without any females, until my neighbors dog decided to eat them all.
But my cockerels are the worst at fighting thru the fences with other roosters! And I have one that will challenge my Call drake.

So pretty much I'd say anything is possible with these guys. :D
