Pics
Dixies babies hatched! Coldest day in 2 weeks! She left 3 in the nest, one was still drying one just wandering trying to find mama, one too cold to move!.

In my lap now...with a heating pad on low... Emergency brooder warming up...she has 11 with her so I may keep these 3 inside...

Congrats momma and keep them baby's warm..hope they all make it

Thanks! She's being a great mama! I took the most active of the 3 back out to her...it was crying for her loud and strong...I opened the coop door and she heard it and came flying over to me...she did a lol dance around it and it followed her back to the others...it was incredible to see...the chilled one is still sleeping, but it's breathing isn't as labored and it did give me a peep or two for fussing with it...like leave me alone I'm sleeping...the one that wasn't quite dried out has a toe that curls under...so I'll have to make it a shoe and hope for the best...

We just got our first two bantam cochins this year. They were started and the male has been crowing for a couple weeks. I put some other bantams in the brooder with them (we are building a bigger coop so I can keep the bantams separate from the standard size chickens we have) and the rooster full out attacked. :-( Guess we will wait for awhile before putting them together again. Maybe just put them together when they are both in new territory. They are going to be my 7 year old sons fair project for 4-H this year. It will be his second year showing. I'm hoping they do great for him. They are so kind and loving towards us so far, just not the other chickens!

I was wrong...it crossed the rainbow bridge...

So the little Banty family is doing great... She has all 13 babies now... I was so worried this morning when I realized I hadn't removed Romeo...I've been watching all day though...

I've seen the babies follow him, I've seen him put himself between me and his Dixie and their babies...I saw babies jumping up and grabbing his wattles and he just stands up and walks closer to Dixie and sits back down!

I had no idea chickens would co-parent!
