And my understanding is they shouldn’t breed since both w the frizzle gene can cause problems. So hmmmm….

I think that is if they are frizzled-

They carry the frizzle gene but don’t look it, unfortunately.

If they carry the gene then they should look the part. Heterozygous frizzle gives us a frizzle, homozygous frizzle gives us a frazzle

In simpler terms, frizzle is a dominant gene. One copy of the gene gives us a frizzle. Two copies of the gene give us a frazzle, so frizzle to frizzle should never be attempted. Yours don't have the gene at all

That's right, you probably ordered assorted bantam frizzled cochins and in such an order some are frizzled and some aren't but the ones that aren't don't carry the gene because frizzling isn't a recessive gene like the silkied gene is. For example you can get chicks with silkied feathering if both parents look like your bird but both carry it but they only carry frizzle if they show it.
