Because you said the R.I. Reds were eWh background and that may be true with hatchery R.I. Reds but in the true R.I. Red it is e+ (black Breasted Red) and not eWh.

Oh.. I see.. but the correct name would be for e+ is Wild Type(as found on Red Jungle Fowl)...Black Breasted Red is a phenotype other allels can mimic(black breast with red hackles and sadles and colored wing triangle for roosters ofcourse as Hens look way different) for example its almost imposible to distiguish a black breasted red rooster based on eWheaten from one based on e+ Wild Type
I'll post some pics soon...

I'm aware of that. I used the term " black Breasted Red" because the breed used was Malay and the variety was a Black Breasted Red which at the time was simply called a Red Malay.

I know what a B.B. Red is and I know they have the Black Breast with Red Hackles, Saddle Hackles, Wing Bow and Bay.
I also know that e+ wild Chicks are brown like chipmunks when hatched, with striped head and back. In adult hood males: Much like the wheaten males, but the red is not quite so bright.
Females are Brownish with very fine black penciling on body. Breast is salmon.
