Thats a shame Birdlover the vet would not sell you the baytril. My vet will sell it to me and just about anything else I might need. He doesn't treat chickens or snakes. I do snake rescues and I currently have 28 snakes living at my house and most are venomous. I think the reason my vet will sell me the meds is because I asked him to treat a sick cainbreak rattlesnake and he informed me he would prescribe the meds that I need if I DO NOT BRING THE SNAKE IN FOT TREATMENT!!! Good deal on my part. Definately works for me.

So what did the vet tell you was wrong?

you can try a tractor supply for your syringes etc. Our feed store carries them also but those are really for larger animals. Maybe someone here knows where you can get your meds. Our vet will sell them to us here as well but doesn't really see chickens.

Whew! It's been a BUSY day and last night! I took my little sweetie to the vets and I had them keep him overnight because I had to go somewhere. I picked him up at 8 this morning. She can't say exactly what is wrong with Robin Hood (i.e., Robbie) but she sure is attacking it with a vengeance. He has to take baytril twice a day and have 3 medications put in his eye twice a day. They did the medicating last night and this morning. Tonight I get the pleasure.

She said she wouldn't bother with lab tests unless this regimen doesn't work (to spare me an even bigger bill)! But, this afternoon, he had his bad eye open and I could see the pupil in the very center. His whole eye was covered with a white film and still is except for the very center. Even that little bit is a huge improvement so I'm very hopeful!!! I don't think I could have beaten this thing without some professional intervention and he's such a darling, I couldn't bear to see him suffering. So, praying to GOD he is on the mend.

Ah, hi, muscadine!!! We must have posted at the same time! LOL Just wanted to comment on your rescue operation. I am a snake lover, too, but I don't think I'd want to mess with the venomous kind!!! How does your rescue work? I mean, are these snakes that you (or someone else) finds injured or snakes from those roadside "zoos" or what? And what do you do with them? I'm very interested!!

We do snake rescues from everywhere. Its mostly house calls though. When people find them they call us a we go out and rescue them. Been doing this for years now. We also do educational snake shows for schools and different organations. We can't stand to hear a snake has been killed simply because it exist and its just trying to make it in the world like everybody else. People will kill thinking its a venomous snake and most of the time its a harmless one. Thats why we do the educational programs. I could write a book on this subject but I have a injured hen myself. Check out the tread in emergencys called "dog pulls out both wings" Heartbreaking for me but the hen is acting quite normal.

Oh that is good progress for him. I will keep my fingers crossed for him. I went through an eye injury with my girl recently...but it was her eyelid thankfully. So cleaning it daily and she is doing great.
