Bantam-Which breed for eggs & quiet?

I want to get some bantam chickens but don't know which breed are good egg layers. Is it the same as standard size chickens? Also, since they are smaller, I'm hoping they make less noise as well. I have standard RIR now but going to sell them because of the loud egg song when laying. I have a 4 x 4 coop, how many bantam can I get? Thanks for any info you can give me.

i'm not sure what the best egg layers are, but my silkies lay pretty well. They tend to be quiet most of the time. Although i do have one that likes to stand and yell on occasion. It's not an egg call, it's just an annoying call. i have my older silkie and mixed bantam group in a 4'x4' x 6' tall playhouse. Currently there are 12 hens in there - too many for what is generally recommended. But i have various levels inside - three tiers of nesting boxes, a ramp leading up to a board that some like to sleep on, and then a roost for the 3 that roost at night. They only sleep and lay eggs in there and have a spacious enclosed run for the daytime.

there is a similar thread on here somewhere that would be worth a look through.

in my experiance with bantams my d'uccles lay very well and dont make much noise (when laying or otherwise, except the rooster who is the alpha and crows all the time), my sebrights also lay very well but i do hear the ocassional "egg song" coming from their coop.

i also have japanese and cochins who dont lay as well, but are very quiet.

My d'uccles lay well and are even laying still in the freezing Michigan weather. They are very quiet and sweet birds and i think You'd enjoy the beautiful colors they are available in. Just my two cents I also have a few other types of Bantams but they are a bit noisier but not bad. My EE bantam lays green eggs consistently which is fun but she isn't as sweet as my d'uccles.
