Bantam?

These came out of the bantam bin at TSC, but the older they get, the more I have my doubts. Is it normal for OEGB to be this big? Never having had any before, I have no idea. The little buff cochin in the back was purchased at the same time and is maybe 1/2 to 2/3 the size.

They look like large fowl chicks to me. OEGBs would have white legs, not yellow, as those two do.

That was my thought. When I bought them, I didn't pick, I just told the clerk to "grab four." I know TSC at least sometimes will have something besides bantams in the bantam bin but quite frankly I was in a hurry and didn't notice. Guess I'll know for sure in another month or so.

Any guesses as to what they might be if not OEGB? I was assuming OEGB just based on chipmunk striping and coming out of the Assorted Bantams at TSC as best I could tell none of the other bantam breeds that should be in there would be chipmunks. It would be nice to know approximately how big they would get as the reason I wanted bantams in the first place was that I simply don't have room for any more large fowl at the moment. The run's plenty big enough, but the coop is only 3x4 and possibly 3 feet tall at its "peak".

If they're large fowl, I may be building an additional coop sooner rather than later.

ETA: They're about 3 weeks old at this point, maybe a bit over.

Again without anything to go on OEGB seems like a good bet especially since it TSC and they provide more common breeds. Most of my girls are bantams because of the very reason you mentioned. I wish you luck but I would say start planning a new coop .

Yah, the only large breed that looks like it might fit would be a Welsummer. I should be so lucky. If I had a Welsummer cockerel I could breed F1 Olive Eggers from my Legbar pullets.

But most likely that's pie in the sky and they actually are OEGB, albeit a bit on the large side.

I'm interested in how they turn out, too, as last week I bought 6 chicks from the bantam bin at TS. I just know they're not silkies! Some have whitish legs, others are more yellow.

According to @JedJackson upthread, the OEGBs should have white legs so at least those would be more to the OEGB standard unlike my "Moose" and his/her sibling.
