You know... I've noticed that no one really answered your questions about how to get your chooks to let you pet them! Have they improved? You need TREATS!!! Goodies!!! Yummies!!! TASTY stuff!!! Chicken Cookies!!! look here for suggestions, but they seem to LOVE cheerios... I don't think there's going to be a cheerio commercial about that any time soon!!
The real way to any chicken's heart is TREATS!!!! After they get used to running to you to see what new yummies you might have, you can sit down low, where they don't feel threatened by you looming, and scatter a few more cheerio's (or bread bits, or whatever) closer and closer to you, pretty soon you'll have em looking IN your hands, and of course if they get a scratch or a stroke from a non-threatening angle there, it all seems very comfortable to them.
Of course, too many treats are bad, but still, a daily bribery visit with a bit of goodness can't be THAT terrible. I suppose you could work in a few healthy things too. *sigh*
They tend to react better to being reached for from down low, overhead is rather threatening for them, and did I mention that they love TREATS??
I do love your photos of everything! I liked the one of your daughter leaning back against her pal, all filthy from a day of fun and exploration about the best though. It pretty much defines how I grew up. I truly hope you're not insulted by my terms, I say it's the BEST way to grow and learn! No better way to raise em!!! The fact that she'll also get all 'prettified' for other photo ops shows that she's got a level head and a bit of whimsey to go with it!!! Your shots of everything are truly lovely and I hope you can market your talent so you can enjoy all the best.
