I originally considered getting heavy or light breeds, but am thinking perhaps bantams are better? I am going by personality traits in the breeds and then looks. But they have a lot more space requirements, and more space means more money for supplies to build the coop and yard bigger. I really like the Orpingtons, Australorps, to name a couple, and I heard that almost every regular breed has a bantam counterpart, but are their personalities the same? Just wanting some input to help me decide. Thanks !

Personality traits can vary between lines. In general I have found the larger the bird and the softer the feather the more docile they are. But that could just be luck and/or the lines and breeds I have raised.

I would advise you to seek out and talk to breeders of the breeds you're interested in. Most breeds have their own thread on these very forums where you could learn a lot about the breed. If personality of the breed is important to you I would also strongly advise getting your birds from an actual breeder and not a hatchery as you are far less like to be disappointed that way and far more likely to get birds that fit with the research you've done.

Thanks, I'm having a hard time deciding between bantams and regulars. Bantams are smaller which means smaller space, less expensive to feed, etc. But the heavier ones are neat too!
