Jake is my wild turkey. I doubt he'd let me smear vaseline on him.

That looks so nice! Do you think the snow will weigh down the tarp and make it sag?

I plan to push off as much as I can. I'm sure it will require high maintenance once it snows, but we don't usually get back to back. We get one big storm, then some little flurries, then another big storm. LOL

It's beautiful. I think the only weak spot as you say is the tarp that will be hard to clear off. Can you make a brace for the center like the poles used on camo that has a sort of spider or umbrella like form at the top that you just push up under it to hold it up like a big top?

I'm not sure WoW... I guess I'll just see how it goes once we get some real snow. Worst case scenario I'll just take the tarp off the roof.

Okay... so the tarp on the roof lasted until about 3pm. The water was coming down like crazy. I noticed a huge bubble in the tarp and went out to drain some water. I poked like 4 holes in it to drain and lifted the other side. Don't you know, the whole thing BURST over top of me. So, there I sat, in the pouring rain catching a turkey to lock in the barn, stitching the aviary netting and fixing the tarp. Now two sides are tarped, instead of the roof. If I try it again, I'll make sure it's secured to the barn roof. I'm just glad the whole run didn't collapse. A few holes wasn't that bad.

Now let's hope I don't get sick because I was drenched to the core in 50 degree weather.

The things we do for chickens... for real.

OH no!!!!!!!!! I don't know if I should laugh or cry for you! I guess it is better to have the rain come down, than snow.

I had a 10 x 12 awning over one run this summer for shade and had 2 x 4's running across. The rain would create big bulges and I would have to go and push the water out. I didn't have any help, so wasn't able to get it taught enough, or on a slant.

So sorry!

Shellie - you won't have to worry about Jake getting frostbite..turkeys don't get it here and are outside year round (true wild easterns which are native to PA and the climate). You are doing a great job with the coop and run.

A recommendation for the tarp, if you don't mind - cut a skinny tree to make a pole. Stick it from the ground up through your netting to hold the tarp up in the center (to make it tent-like). You'll probably need 2. This will allow the snow to slide off before it builds up..hopefully.
