Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Barnies are not huge layers...I think I remember reading that they will lay anywhere from 180 to 200 eggs per year.
Let me tell you how my girls are laying...I have one gal who just started laying, needless to say it is very sporatic and she hasn't given me that many in the few weeks since she started and my oldest hen has just come out of molt, but prior to that she would lay an egg one day and take a 2 day break and so on. Hope others will chime in with their opinions.

Hi Beck! You will love the Barnies...they are a very sweet breed of birds. I don't know who the top breeders are but I can tell you that there is a gentleman by the name of Johan VanArchterburg in Conneticut who has lovely birds and he is not all that far from you. He does ship eggs but I believe he is not shipping them this time of year, he prefers to ship in the spring when the girls have started laying again. I have birds from him and in my opinion they are the best quality Barnies around, JMHO, but I am sure someone else will come along and give their opinions as well and share the breeders that they like as well.

Thank you Pinky...
I've contacted him...he wont have anymore chicks for this year...I must reserve them now for next year. Before I do that I must get some more information about his flock.

So, the two hens I spoke of yesterday, layed their third eggs today. thought I would share. Much larger than my slw's first eggs. I don't think they look to bad for hatchery birds. What do you guys think?
