Trisha, here's the rest of your babies. I ended up with 6 out of 9 that went into lockdown. Of the 3 that didn't hatch, 2 were late quitters and 1 pipped the wrong end and since I hatch in cartons, I didn't know and the baby died.

I've never had them pip the wrong end before.

Anyhow, onto pictures! The mottled javas in the pictures are from mediazeal.

And mediazeal, here's your barnie babies. I ended up with 5 out of 7 barnies (2 late quitters) and all 3 mottled javas hatched. These eggs survived 3 power outages during incubation.

All babies are banded so I can keep track of the bloodlines.

And I just love this picture:

tls,

Just curious and may have been mentioned in previous post but haven't looked back but, whats the reason behind the Cornevelder? A Barnevelder improvement? Or just a fun new breed? Wondering what TYPE you are looking for in the Cornevelder if its new? Barnie type or Cornish? or a new type? Just curious. Nice bird.

I want to use them to create a line of Barnevelders that has a bit more body and muscle. Barnevelders should be dual purpose for eggs and meat. The cross also added some hybrid vigor and oddly much darker eggs than their parent stock. They also lay more eggs due to the added vigor. I hope to get them to the Barnevelder breed standard, just a little bigger and heavier. They should make a good "outcross" to other lines of barnevelders.

, on the baby the pipped wrong. But, I do like to hatch in cartons as I think it helps most of the chicks hatch rather than being rolled around. I also wanted to add that with mine for down color sexing most girls will have dark chests and boys whitish. I saw it mentioned the other way around on the wellie thread. It's not 100%, but it's pretty accurate with my vB line ususally. I don't know if my vB/Johan roos will change that.

I was planning to line breed the vB line I got from C. Ledford , but got two nice vB/Johans roos and I'm going to try them. They have a few things that I want to add like bright yellow legs. I hope to have 3 distinct lines soon: Pure barnies (vB/Johan), Blues, and the ones with cornish. I'll have to figure out a name for the ones with cornish in them after I get them to standard.

What are the differences in type between Barnevelders and your project Cornevelders? Are you trying to develop them as a breed?
