Your hen looks partridge not laced at all! Hence why she looks too light. It could be that it is hard to see correctly in photo but looks like the outside of her feathers is ground colour-red/gold- rather than black.

My hatch date was Friday, of course I worked 12 1/2 hours that day and was "on call" at work all weekend.

I live 45 minutes away and have to stay there so I can get there in time. (I work in surgery). Soooo, I was gone all weekend. My hubby was here on and off so he kept me informed. I only had 3 to hatch. 1 hen and 2 roos, I believe. I'm excited, but wanted better than that of course. I thought 7 were doing well at day 18. I will check the other 4 out tomorrow and see what happened. The humidity was @35 then up 65 at day 18. Air sacs looked nice. who knows.

Well... at least I have the 3.

That's what I thought, I'm trying to decide which hens to get rid of and I kept looking at her knowing something was wrong but I couldn't put my finger on it. DUH! her lacing color is the reverse of what it should be. Maybe I should quit now if I couldn't see that

She has good body type, though. If she is a good layer, you could "work" with her and use a roo that's really dark. She needs to have two copies of Ml to get the lacing. She looks like she's lacking one or both copies of Ml - Melanotic.

Just wondering if those who incubated and hatched Johan eggs so far this year could give a little feedback on the number of eggs they started with and how many actually hatched. Looking for info on eggs shipped direct from Johan only. Myself and another member both rec'd eggs within a day or so of each other and both ended up with very low hatch rates. Just curious and would love to hear others results for the year so far. Thanks in advance for the info.

I do remember that someone on here was talking about their low hatch rates a month or so ago. I don't know who it was or were they got them from. I guess what I'm asking is... is this breed hard to incubate. I totally understand all the factors with shipping eggs also. And in my case, I'm definitely not ruling out operator error.

A can say that I got 10 eggs from Trisha back in March that traveled from California to Maine - Monday to Thursday - and 8 hatched... They sat almost 48 hrs at my end before setting because I was waiting on some other eggs to settle that I set at the same time.

Out of the 15 different breeds that I have incubated Barnevelders are the easiest. Shipped eggs however are a different story, I have not ever had any luck hatching them, getting 2 or 3 chicks out of a dozen eggs being good. Good luck with future hatching!!

I am wondering about hatch rates from eggs shipped from Johan only. I too have hatched Barnevelders from others and had much better hatch rates. Anyone else out there incubate any eggs direct from Johan this year? Just curious if it is me or the eggs or a trend.
