Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

My babies are now 10 weeks old, here's a few pictures. It's stormy out today, so I had to use the flash, which washes them out and doesn't show their true beauty. Green band still mediazeal, no band Trisha babies.

Okay so I left work early to take care of the chickens befor the game, ever used that excuse before "hey boss gotta leave early because I forgot to put my eggs in lockdown last night!"

Anyway I candled and the look good for the most part, a few were not moving but there is not much space. Question on some there is still open space at the pointy end but on others the end is totally filled, is that a problem? So to wrap up I have 12 barnies going into lockdown set to hatch on Thursday and another 12 for next Thursday

They are arriving

!!!! As of this morning 1 Barnie hatched, 2 are almost out, and 4 have piped. I am finally getting the flock I wanted. So there are still 9 more that I am waiting for them to do something and 12 more due to hatch next week! The one issue I have, not totally sure yet, but the one Barnie that hatched looks like when it dries it might have a “V”. Keeping my fingers crossed that it does not

Where do you get numbered bands, what sizes and when do you put them on the chicks?

I'd like to id my week old chicks that are from 2 different breeders and especially tag an odd colored to the breed one.

I'm thinking of getting colored zip ties at Walmart??

What do you all use?

Also, on that hatch/lockdown, what kind of bator do you have.

I have a foam bator and a little giant turner in it and I have 3 sets of eggs in there staggered at 3 days apart each. Trying to figure out when to turn off the turner (like when they pip?).

Also, humidity has run 45-60 during the entire 18 days. So will bumping it up to 70% damage the others that are 3 and 6 days behind this first group?

Thanks,
Bonnie

I got mine locally at my feed store, but I have ordered some in the past on line.

I prefer the cellulose "bandettes" to the spirals. They are easier to get on and off. I think I started off with size 4 or 5, but you have to change them a lot as they grow so they don't dig in to the chicks leg. I'd have my kids hold the chick, so I could work with both hands, so I wouldn't injure their leg. At 10 weeks now, mine are at size 9 leg bandettes.

I incubated them at the same time, but hatched them separately so I could keep track of whose stock they came from, for when I choose my breeders. I hatched some in a hovabator styrofoam incubator, others in a Brinsea borrowed from a friend.

Take them out of the turner at Day 18 - from that point on, they don't need turning. I incubate the first 18 days at 25-35%, then bump to 65% for lockdown. As they start hatching, your humidity will raise and if several pop out at once, the humidity can get too high.

So I just candled my eggs and I am super excited about the results

On day seven, out of twelve eggs shipped, nine we saw definite movement and three were questionable.
