Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I got my first egg from one of my blue barnie pullets on Sunday. It's a beautiful egg. She's only 24 weeks, so I was definitely surprised. My last pure barnie girl waited 11 months before giving me an egg!

Congrats!!!!!

Interesting - one of the photo's is the same one that is on the greenfire farms website...
Even more interesting is that Greenfire Farm's website says they imported their silver double laced Barnevelders from Holland, not the UK where this seller is located. Someone is using someone else's picture, the question is who and why? The seller seems to have good stock (if the rest of the pictures are indeed his/hers), I don't know why they'd need to use a picture from Greenfire Farms stock.

Congrats on the egg! I just set another 50+ eggs....my incubator is double stacked, LOL. I had nearly 5 dozen eggs stockpiled that were too old to sell...let alone ship. So, I put them in the bator.

I think I ended up with about 50/50 boy/ girl with the last hatch. The girls must of hatched first because most of the chicks in that pic were girls. The later chicks were mostly boys. Here I thought I lucked out with a bunch of girls. Oh well, sorry you got a bunch of boys. But on the bright side, you will have a lot too choose from and you can pick a good one as a breeder:)

I just looked in the bator (had to move some turkeys to hatch) and a quick glance over the barnie eggs show 28 out of 38 with definite growth.

Trisha, I really should snap some pictures of the first batch that I hatched from you, they are doing great!

I wish I lived closer, Trisha! Of course, I should have more of your chicks coming out of the 'bator about that time too, lol.

cvandermerwe...they look great! I am no expert on boys/girls but it looks to me like there are four boys in that second picture. There are three in that picture that I can't really see though. Looks like you will have lots to choose from in deciding what roo to keep!

Here they are...

I love these guys, they are all feet! More boys than girls?
Man, I may just have to break down some day and get some blue eggs, just so I have the possibility of getting splash. To bad I don't live near anyone that just wants Blues, LOL! Even at this age they are just so CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!
