Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

. Rachel what are you flagging them for? Honestly people have the right to call their birds whatever they want on Craigslist. If you followed up on every misnamed chicken on Craigslist you would drive yourself batty. Why not just call them first and find out what they have going on, they may be working on projects just like many of us.

That's my opinion. I don't think we need Barnevelder police.

Andy

Like I stated, I tried to contact them on Saturday, but did not hear back. As far as flagging, they are using pictures that are not their own and are supposed to say that in the post. No, I would not follow up on every misnamed chicken.

Yes, people have the right to call their birds what ever they want, but I also have the right to flag them for a scam. If they are a project bird, that should be stated also.

That's my opinion

They can call them anything they like but posting photo's that are not of your own birds that you snagged off of the internet is fraud

Yes. Roos from the F1 generation will all be heterozygous (split) for silver and Melanotic so you can't go wrong. However, this is a good time to start selecting for type, lacing, and removing as much autosomal red as you can. So getting rid of the ones with the most red makes perfect sense! Just curious, did you use a Silver roo over Barnie hens or vise versa?
yes, silver penciled roo over barny hens. My plan is the breed F1 roos to F1 hens and back to barny hens for the F2s. My barny roo died in a heat wave about 2 weeks ago

. Grabed up all of the eggs the hens laid after and they are in the incubator, so maybe I will get another roo out of them if they are fertal and not still from the SPRock that was in with the hens prior.

I think "she" is a BYC member that mainly sells imported orpingtons in many colors. I am not trying to police anyone, but I agree it is not a good thing to use other people's photos unless you state so. . The colors like " black gold double laced", "black double laced" and " partridge double laced" listed in the ad is just confusing to me as well.

Okay figured out how to report, but if others can hope on and flag it, that would be helpful also.
Okay....."hello" ........I'm the "She" that you've been talking about on this forum. I'll just go ahead and say it......"I don't know Barnevelders yet!" Notice, I said YET. I hatched out too many and wanted to sell some of the 2 month old chicks.....and "NO" I don't know all the colors and it probably was confusing. I was only selling them for $8.00 each. Wasn't trying to make ANY MONEY off of them at all! So, I seriously don't think I was trying to "Scam" anybody. Just wanted to place some so I wouldn't have so many. I have been admiring the Barnevelders and thought I would hatch some out and raise them up to see how I liked them. But, I had a few too many and decided to sell some. The people who bought them are VERY pleased with them. These are not project birds. I do know that some of the hens and the Rooster that produced mine had the "blue gene". Thus, I produced several different colors?

So, instead of bashing me....why not try to educate me? I'm guilty as charged......can we just move on now? It's not a secret anymore and I'm a big girl and can say when I'm wrong. I think that Andy had the right attitude. You should have just called me to discuss it. You would have found out that I'm not a Barnevelder expert. So sorry that I insulted the Barnevelder people....didn't mean to....my main focus is on English Orpingtons, but I do think that the Barnevelders are very beautiful. I will be sure and do more research in the future.

I will raise the Barnevelders I have and then I will have some grown ones that I can take pictures of. Oh.....and I cancelled the ad.

Wow, Jobele, you really took all that very well. I will be the first to admit you are a bigger person than me in this situation. Welcome to the thread, I think with you will really enjoy it! I agree no one should be a chicken police, just don't want new people to get scammed and now that it is clear you are not doing that, I apologize.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your little ones.

Thank you very much! I'm glad that we got that out of the way.....because I really do want to learn! Can anybody tell me a good book that I can buy to read more about the breed? Or maybe some websites that could give me more info. Thanks!

Hi Jobele,

Please understand that from our standpoint we have seen a lot of fraud-like behavior so we kind of get PO'd about it (at least I do). Thank you so much for coming onto the list to explain, and welcome. I have learned SO much from this list, and it is one of the most supportive threads on BYC. I think you will enjoy it.

I don't know of any books but a lot of people on this thread are a walking book of knowledge. If you can start reading at the beginning, it will take a while but you will learn a TON!!!!
