Thanks...that sounds good. They are only almost five months old. I'll just do my homework and wait and see. Thanks everyone for the help!

so pretty! Here are some pictures of my Barnevelder cockerel Max. He just turned 4 months old, started crowing at 14 weeks and is just now starting to "dance" around the ladies. It seems like he all of a sudden got HUGE this past week!First picture I've taken of him crowing!
His tail feathers are still short, but what a beautiful iridescent green!
Max is very calm and regal. Definitely the uncontested leader over the other male and 13 pullets. My other cockerel, Quincy, is slightly larger and acts like a silly bumbling adolescent boy...but very sweet. So far his coloring does not compare to Max's.
Can someone kindly comment on the quality of Barnevelders from Meyer's hatchery based on the pictures on their website? Please comment via PM if you don't feel comfortable posting it on the main thread.

They kinda look like Black Laced mixed. Someone is trying to sell me a cockerel they bought from their hatchery which looks good but I have doubts about color pattern quality.
Thanks, I just needed a re-affirmation. I just got some BLR chicks from Fancy-chicks and wanted the cockerel as a second blood line and some breeding experiment, but will pass it.Personally, I wouldn't do it. Not if you're serious about breeding. First of all, the photos on their website are not necessarily the birds they use for breeding. Also, the chick picture shows a chick with e+ wild type down, which will mess up the lacing in your hens. A rooster could carry the e+ gene, but it isn't as obvious as it is in the hens and chicks. Chicks with e+ down should be marked so they are not used for breeding.
