Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Pics
I have always loved this breed ! I found someone near me that breeds them and I am going to go take a look Saturday... Can someone tell me the APA standard or some things I should look for ? I have always wanted these and can't believe I found someone near me that breeds them, But I want to make sure that don't get some that are too far off from what they should be...

ETA

So I found the standard posted on second page of this thread....

But anything else I should look for that might throw up a little red flag would be great....

How old is the pullet/hen you are holding? The feather pattern almost looks like a juvenile barnevelder. She does seem to have some double lacing, if she's young the lacing may improve when she gets her adult feathers.

Trisha

She just turned two months old so yep she is still young. Here I've uploaded another pic. I have two boys and two girls and wow, are they ever SHINY.

Sorry I didnt think to include her age. My bad.

We're pretty good at taking bad pictures of our birds, lol.

Clyde is a very pretty boy. Do you know what lines he comes from?

I'm sorry, no - I don't have a clue. We kinda got him by accident. After one of our 2 ex batts died, I decided to get the remaining hen a friend. We [my students, an assistant and I] work weekly at a childrens farm, where they have lots of chickens. I asked if they had an old hen that we could have as a companion to our lonely ex batt. They said no, they didn't have any old hens, but that I could have one of the barnevelder pullets for £10 - "the one with the wonky tail".

So I thought about it, did a bit of research to check if that was a reasonable price and decided to have her. I sent my assistant to collect her, and decided she would be called 'Bonnie'.

Bonnie looked decidedly manly, to me - which was confirmed the next morning when 'she' started to crow. The ex batt wasn't particularly impressed either - chasing him round the coop, pulling feathers out of his bottom. My assistant was very embarrassed. I rang the farm and they agreed to swap him for a hen..

Meanwhile, some of my students took a liking to Clyde [as we now called him]. He allowed them to pet him, cuddle, him and was very laid back. They begged me to keep him. I checked with the boss, our Head Teacher, and she said that would be fine, but if any of the neighbours complained, he'd have to go back to the farm.

So - it was agreed that we keep Clyde, and they gave us a welsommer pullet as well [as there were no more barnevelder hens left]. After a bit of squabbling, Chloe, the ex battery hen [who used to be bottom of the pecking order orignially] now finds herself top of the pile, in charge of Clyde the barnevelder cockerel and Bonnie the Welsummer. They all get along very well .

I just got back from the breeders ! And I came home with four two week old Barnevelders and four Day old barnevelders

Posted this pic on the dark egg breeds thread and got no response so thought I'd try here to get some feedback. The 2 rows on the left are BCM eggs and the 2 on the right are Barnevelder. The darker of the 2 are v/B line and the far right is Kelly Cratty. How close is the egg colors to others on this thread? I think the v/B row is very nice and the chicks from those eggs are Johann/v/B and are laying some nice eggs so far but have just begun to lay.

Lovely eggs! The eggs in the 3rd row from the left are just like the ones that I received and hatched out from Farmer Johan, I can only hope that my little Stephanie lays eggs like that, but as you know I am still waiting.

Do the eggs in the 3rd row have any speckles on them or are they smooth?

Thanks for sharing them! I'm sooooo jealous!

A long time ago I mentioned that I had some birds that were suppose to be pure Barnevelders and that I believed that they have Welsummer in them, well after trying for several months to upload those pictures I was finally successful.

I think it would be wrong to put out breeders name I will just say Pullet A, B and C, from line 1,2 and 3, none of these birds are related.

Pulle A: line 1

Sorry about the image quality, I had to reduce their size to upload and I think that I may have distorted them a little after looking at the posting after it posted, or it could just be my monitor, I'm not sure, If they are too bad for viewing please say something and I will try and fix it.
Thanks.

edited to add: When these birds hatched they all looked identical to a Welsummer with "eye-liner" and very distinct "V's" on their heads, the only 2 differences in the pure Welsummer chicks that I hatched from my own eggs at the same time (incubated and hatched in a completely seperate 'bator and put in a seperate brooder so there was no confusion or mix up) was that a couple of the Barnevelders had eyeliner that split and went 2 different directions toward the back of the head and they were a slightly darker shade of brown. I will see if I still have their chick photos since the crash of my computer, but I can't remember seeing them.

Thanks! They are smooth. However the pullets that just started laying are putting out a few with speckles. Not more then one in a day so it might just be one hen. Are speckles ok on Banevelder eggs? I could try and get some pics of them today.

They seem to be missing a copy of the Pg pattern gene and lacking the Ml Melanotic as well. It almost looks like they have a copy of columbian because of the hackles, dark tail, and the fact that what lacing they do have is restricted just to the tips of the feathers.
