Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

There is a auction on eBay right now. They look pretty dark, I wish I had space for them

I am sorry let me re-say that. For older post stock from a hatchery is often cross bred and not a pure breed Barnie. Did not want to sound defensive

Hi Rachael,
Gabbard originally had birds from the Kelly Cratty line and then I think later added some from C. Ledford. Ledford got her KC line from Gabbard. When I ordered eggs from Ledford I got both her "vB" line and KC line. I liked the vB line better because the hens I had laid better colored eggs. The KC hens I ended up with laid really light eggs, but were beautiful.

Here is one of my KC hens, the other actually has better lacing but is just a tad smaller. Both lay really pale eggs, but that might of been just what I ended up with genetically. The quality that you could get from Gabbard may vary, but originally they came from good "show" stock and I don't think she added any "hatchery" lines to her flock.

Edited to add:
Regarding customer service and shipped eggs from Gabbard....I've never gotten eggs from her directly so I can't vouch for her. I have heard good things and bad, but that could be expected with a larger "hatchery" style operation.

Trisha, your pictures make me more impatient for my chicks to grow up.

What are some of the first things you cull males for? And at what age do you typically cull them? I have 9 of them growing.
