Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Pics
From my experiance with barnevelders. The pullets will be almost fully feathered at around four weeks old. The cockerals will mainly just have their wing feathers and maybe starting to get their tail feathers around four weeks old.

I agree.

Barnies are very slow to mature and feather out...especially the males.

But they sure are loveable little cusses.

Thanks Jen! I took a long time to get here I have learned so much. This set is supposed to be better quality lines so hopefully I won't have just eating egg layers!!! But only time will tell.

Well I ended up with 8 hatching! That puts me at 12 barnies a total of 4 with a V will post pics when I get back in the office. Do your babies come in different shades of brown, some of this are chocolate colored and others are almost black they are so dark! Just wondering it to was a sign of something bad?

I get a few lighter ones and a few darker chicks too. You should see how light some chicks are in the UK

The genetics must really be different overthere. But please post some pics and that will help us to see just what differences you are seeing:)

Well...the results are in. I have 3 barnevelder chicks. The fourth one tried to hatch....it zipped 1/3 of the way and then died in the egg...disappointing. It looks like I have 2 boys and a girl (very thankful for the girl that was last to hatch and came on day 23). Now, if they'll just stay alive for me, next year I can hatch some of my own!
