Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Thanks Trisha,

Okay here are the lighter and darker ones, they are the two in the front that are facing away, it was the best shot I had.

Here are the "older" ones, I took this pic when they were a week and 2 days old, see how long thier tail feathers are? Does this mean they are girls?

Rachael........your top picture front, right has wellie in it. Your bottom two look like pullets from their feathering, but also appear to have wellie in them. (V on the head and coloring)

Yep, a total of 4 have wellie, if you look at the back right one it is also a "V", so 2 out of 3 in the Week old group and 2 out of 8 in the day old group!!!!

That is why I am hoping the two older ones are girls, so I can at least keep them for eggs. I was stupid and named them (Stormy and Shaggy) and it would be a shame to have to get rid of them, the kids would be really upset (me too). So on the next group of 8 (2 more wellies), not going to name any of them!!!

However, question, since each set came from a single breeder does it mean the others also have wellie in them, you just can't see it? Or could it be that the wellie is on its way to be breed out?

I don't know, I'm just getting started with the barnevelders. I would imagine you would have to grow them out and see how their lacing comes out.

I would bet you have 2 pullets there by how fast they are feathering.

I've had wellies for almost 2 years now though, so I'm familiar with them.

I agree that the two chicks to the farthest right are not correctly marked. The other 5 look pretty good to me. The older chicks look like pullets with the long wings and tails:)

Today is a perfect day for picture taking, so I got some shots of my 12 week old barnevelders. Green band = mediazeal No band = Trisha Sorry there's so many pics, but I just couldn't narrow it down.

I'm getting so excited, the pullets are getting their lacing and high tail angles. And the boys, well they finally have feathers.

No she's not deformed, she's looking at someone under the coop. But it shows her lacing well.

They look really nice! I love the tail sets on them. I'm really liking what I see in this year's chicks.

Funny thing last night, my 7ish week chicks were loose all day (oops, and I couldn't catch them) and I had to go to a kid's b-day party that ended up running really late. The wind blew the brooder door shut and when I got home near dark the chicks were on top of the double decker brooder. That's 6 ft straight up. And about 15 of them were even higher in the extra lumber we have in the "rafters" of our carport. I couldn't get to them so I left them out all night. All were accounted for come morning

I'm really excited about these babies, I think I'll have a really nice start to breeding them.
