We've got a very mellow, sweet girl, Gertrude, who we think might be a Barnevelder. (?)[IMG] She has some odd quirks: She doesn't scratch, she just hunts-and-pecks along the ground for her food. (Our chickens free range in the grass and woods) She also hasn't made any bawk-bawk sounds... until last week. Basicly, you'd never know someone had chickens if they had a flock of Gertrudes!
Do Barnevelders scratch very little? Are they super-quiet until they lay? Gertrude laid her FIRST EGG today![IMG]

Yep, she's a barnevelder. Mine scratch around, but they are a mellow, calm breed. Mine are not noisy, except for the egg song.
