[Pretty Birds]

Here are some pictures of my mixes! Their dad is a spangled Old English Game Bantam and their mom (possibly moms) is a buff silkie. Heather is the girl and Picket is the boy (they are named after characters in the Green Ember series). Sadly, I have to downsize my flock, but I am hoping to find a good home for this pair!

That is a very cool cross. They are pretty chickens.

I love the white-tipped feathers on the buff, but not quite a d'uccle look (not that d'uccles are bad, I love that breed!)

I have quite a few random mixes. My first is a silkie mix. He’s my baby. We bought him from a hatchery and they thought he was a purebred silkie. He has a son, a silkie mix/RIR cross. Absolutely GORGEOUS but man is he a jerk. He’s had to be separated due to causing fights. We have two austrolorp/Turken crosses that we hatched. View attachment 2224327

When you breed your turken with a different breed of chicken do you get all naked necks or will some be NN and some be regular?

All will be naked necks because the NN gene is dominant.

Here are some of my grandparents barnyard mixes. These are from earlier in the summer and I will post what they look like now if I have the pics. We have no idea wha they are mixed with, they got them as 12 assorted fertile eggs to incubate. Out of the twelve they got 4 pullets(of of which is now mine) 7 cockerals, and one died as a chick. The two that are not pictured are two black cockerals.

Hawkeye- pullet

Billina-Cockeral
Had a nice glow up and has barred rock coloring, but has gold mixed in as well. Very sad he is going to be culled but he’s mean

Roo- very pretty now but also going to be culled as he isALSO mean.

Puffy- pullet. Looks pretty much the same now. Black with fluffy feet.

Pippin- Grew up to be a cockerel and is absolutely georgous. Unfortunately he’s mean to the hens and has to go.

Mellow- pullet, grew up to look pretty much the same as this pic

Fluffy-Cockeral. Finally! A nice boy. Keeping him. Satin Silkie. Updated pic below his baby pic.

Bandit. Another cockerel. Pretty good with hens, keeping him. Grownup pics below.

And then the special one!
This is Flynney, a pullet. She has the best glow up of all. At two months old she stopped walking, I took her home and have her intensive care for another two months and now she is heathy and happy.

I have a barnyard mix that is being developed into a breed. They produce on average about 300 eggs during their first two production seasons and get big enough to eat. Hens are also capable of going broody. Coloration of feathering and eggs still variable, but all barred.

What did you use as starter genetics???

I'm looking to do something similar, though fewer eggs, and a little more meaty, suitable for free ranging in FL. Would like barred, or at least penciled, to better blend in on my property as they range.

Thank you! I found some nice comparison pictures of her versus my d’uccle I thought I’d share.

Some naked necks are heterozygous for the NN gene, so, if that’s the case, half their chicks would not be naked necked.
