Here is a late august hatch cockerel out of cockerel above and a cuckoo hen.May have 2 copies of the barring gene.More time needed to see if his legs stay slate.

Got around to finding out who lays what color egg.My best pullet lays the blue green egg.Yeah!Pea comb, bearded, and slate legs.Only 1 copy of pea comb and beard.Other 2 pullets lay brown.Anxious to start the next generation.

by fate me and a friend of mine have been inadvertently creating a line of barred ee's too! there is some foggyness in the genesis of this line, but here is my best guess at where we are:
cuckoo maran x hatcher amer (unknown color) = goldie; a rainbow striped roo whose sister was an olive egger. single comb.
goldie x hatchery amer (red brown) = young goldie; a rainbow striped roo. cheek puffs and pea comb.
young goldie x hatchery amer (unknown colors) has resulted in 3 rainbow roos. i'm trying to decide which rooster to keep now-- and i'm so stumped! i was going to cull last weekend but decided to give the decision more time.
my goal is to get a larger bird, and bluer egg--while keeping the gorgeous rainbow stripes and gentle character that has blown me away.
these cockerels are all rainbow-colored with stripes--so IMO without the barring they would look like a red-brown or wheaten amer roo
they are not done growing and amer genes can be slow growing.
only one of their pullet sisters has started to lay, and only one cockerel has started to crow.
all the cockerels have yellow legs, although some of their pullet sisters have green or green-gray legs.
rooster 1: largest. born leader but very good with people. has begun to crow and does the mating dance. has wattles and an in-between comb. wide. long legs. no cheek puffs.
the pullet that most looks likes him lays a green egg.
rooster 2. medium sized. prettiest coloring. has cheek puffs and the smallest comb. no wattles. not as wide yet as above. doesn't crow yet. was pecky as a chick, but not recently. the pullet that most looks like him lays a nice blue egg.
rooster 3. smallest, but wide. good with people. not crowing yet. least pretty. comb and wattles are in-between. no cheek puffs.
