Love your post Kefiren. You have the beginnings of a autosexing line if you choose to go that route.Any crele like pattern can be autosexing.Thinking of doing the same thing myself.I have a very nice partridge pullet of good size that I put in the barred pen yesterday. She is a mix of EE,Silver and Wheaten ameraucana. The wheaten put some size in there.Post some pics if you have time.

I´ve been thinking about an "Autosexing" Red Ameraucana type project

I remember you mentioned this somewhere.Considered the red like rhodebar type also.Decieded barred on partridge appealed to me more.
Barred Partridge males would look like normal "Crele".

jerryse: thanks for the idea about the autosexing. i hadn't thought of that. i wonder if it will be like cream legbar autosexing? my line of barred ee's does look very much like cream legbars. in fact, one of the hens has white earlobes, who knows, I could have some leghorn in the mix, you never know!

niclandia: i gave the roo "young goldie" (1/4 cuckoo x 3/4 amer) to my friend and she set him loose with her hens of various breeds, mostly amers.

it was a lucky move because most of my chicks this year were eaten by predators, including all his sisters and his mother.

anyways, my friend ended up with chick overload and gave me back 3 barred cockerels and 5 pullets. 2 pullets were not barred and look like normal amers. 3 were barred. of the barred ones... 2 look like amers. but...

it appears that young goldie hooked up with a red hen--one of the barred pullets is red all over. very cute!

so she is a tiny bit cuckoo, a little bit more amer, and 1/2 red.

i've take some pics, going to try to load them but i haven't done it before.

don't know if i got one of her, i was focusing on the roos.

Cute chicks Jerry. I am waiting for incubator space or a broody to set some eggs from my cuckoo projects. I can't wait. I have 84 eggs baking now. Don't know what I will do with all the chicks while growing out

Moved some of the barred/ cuckoo chicks hatched march and april.I should have taken some pics.I have culled heavily from day one.Culling yellow legs single combs and anything else unwanted.I had 2 pens going. The F1 rooster over black hens produced few culls as expected. The F1 rooster over my cuckoo hens produced the most culls as expected. This pen is my chance for double barred cockerels.
