He’s between 18-20 weeks and is going through a big molt. This molt is bringing in both really pretty brown feathers as well as feathers that flip backwards. Is this standard? Is there such thing as a mixed chicken breed? (I’m obviously new.) I’ll attach photos.

So, with someone's help, I gathered that he is likely part barred Cuckoo Maran and something with a beautiful red/orange brown feathered influence that also results in hackle feathers that curl outward. Any idea what that last bit may be? I'm mostly just curious, but I'd like to ideally be able to look up his breed history details just to better care and prepare for his future.

I doubt he is a Cukoo Maran, most likely a Barred Rock with his yellow legs and beak. Cukoo Marans should have pinkish white legs. Chickens that are homozygous for white skin (WW), will only have offspring with white skin. This means if your bird has Cukoo Maran in him, he would most likely have white skin instead of yellow. Of course, your bird is most likey not a first generation cross meaning it is very hard to say without knowing the possibilities. Because of his white earlobes, he may have some type of Mediterranean bird in him.

When I Google Image Search that photo, I only find two things. I don’t know if this is a “breed” or plumage, but I see “black link” and “Cree.”

“The Sex Link Hybrid is the result of crossing two heritage purebred poultry standard chicken breeds together. One of our best Cackle Hatchery® production/bloodlines of Rhode Island Red chicken rooster and one of our best Cackle Hatchery®’production/bloodlines of Barred Rock chicken hen and cross them to give you this outstanding brown egg-laying hen offspring. The baby chicks for sale from this original cross are color sexable chicks- the grown roosters have faded barred with light colored neck hackle feathers, grown pullets or hens are black with red mixed in their neck hackle feathers. This hybrid chicken breed makes for very vigorous chicks, rugged brown egg laying hens…”

If he's a black/red/gold sex link, he's a mixed breed

I have a notification saying someone asked what he looks like now, but I don’t see it on the thread. Here’s a video:

— Any idea how old he is?
— Any idea how long until he’s (physically) fully grown?
