Alright. So I just bought 6 Barred Rocks and they were not already sexed and I’ve seen many ways to tell them apart but I just don’t want to be wrong. I would like to know for sure if I have hens like I hoped or half of them being Roosters like last year:mad::fl

Whoever helps me out thank you so so much. I love knowing what the genders will be so I can start thinking of names and make sure I’m not cursed with rooster being thrown at me:lol:

I can’t tell with head dots but usually wait a few weeks for the barring to come in. I have the worse luck with getting cockerels.
Yeah it's usually pretty easy to tell when they are older. last year I got 4 Rhode Island Reds and when i thought one of them was just a little behind the rest she ended up being the only hen. I'm really hoping I have better luck this year:fl

Okay. Usually I can tell their genders by then based on their personalities and comb size by then. I just bought these last night hoping I recieved moslty hens.
Yeah, there isn't really anything to go by this young....six weeks is generally when cockerels develop their red combs, but if you have early bloomers, you can tell them ahead of time. Anyone with a red/pink comb....

Yeah. The reason I posted the spot on their heads and their feet is because female Barred Rocks tend to have a more defined spot only on their head with darker feet whereas males have lighter feet with a less defined spot that runs into their neck because of their adult coloring.

A lot of people say there are differences like that, but i personally dont think they are very reliable.
