Barred rock: hen or rooster?

To me it looks like a roo. But before taking any severe measures and going to the point of culling please spend about 4 weeks trying to re-home him. I'm sure such a beautiful roo should find a good home soon.

IF a roo, logically would already be crowing and strutting like a roo?. My two BR hens are all the same age, (looks like yours) and very vocal right now. Here's <My girl wth a big crown and longer feathers. She should start laying anytime now. The other BR is smaller (smaller crown, etc.) started laying this week.

I have the same problem. I have 2 barred rocks about 4 months old. One looks lighter but has a way shorter tail. The other is much skinnier with a longer tail. A couple days ago it escaped and got into the neighbors yard with her chickens. This morning I found her dead in her laying box. Did the other birds not like her smell from the neighbors chickens maybe??... I'm new at this so I don't know.

No... Your chickens wouldn't have killed her just because she smelled a little different.

She could have gotten a disease, was suffocated or died from the weather. You now need to make sure the other hens don't start showing signs of sickness. Because this can kill them too.

I was able to find him a new home, a guy had 4 hens and wanted a rooster. He was such a pretty boy.

I think I have 2 barred rock chickens but the one that looks like yours with the exception of the longer tail feathers is a hen, officially. The other one has smaller comb so I'm pretty sure she's a
pullet.

This one is Spec the hen.

This one is Spot the pullet.

I feel like I have the same issue we bought 5 barred rock chickens and I think we have 4 roo and one hen
