Barred Rock laying significantly smaller eggs?

Good morning everyone. Recently two of my oldest birds began laying (horray!). My Goldne Sexlink is laying regular sized eggs, but I cannot distinguish who is laying the much smaller eggs. I believe that it's my Plymouth Barred Rock because she goes back to the coop early in the mornings and when she comes out, there is the egg. However, I also have a Serema Bantam who should be of laying age now as well. Is it common for a Plymouth Barred Rock to be laying eggs that are much smaller than a normal sized egg? I can't tell if its the bantie laying, and the barred rock in simply sitting on it.

Yes they all usually start out small and then grow in size as they lay and get older. We have a BR that started laying about 6 weeks ago and it still seems like the are getting larger by the day. She is laying a very light brown egg as well. Give her time I'm sure it will get larger.

Her and my Sexlink started laying a day apart. The Sexlink's eggs are big and full, but two weeks of laying now and the PBR's eggs are still about 1/2 the size.

The saga continues....Sunday morning, we received a small egg again. Later in the day, we expected a large dark brown egg from our sexlink and received a large light brown egg instead. I was thinking if we received another egg that day (hopefully a dark brown large egg) we'd have the mystery solved....to our surprise, those light brown eggs were the only two we recieved that day, thus confusing us even more. Is it possible that a hen will lay two different colored eggs?

No they will not change colors. They can change in shade slightly, but not color. You have another new layer.

I'd say the small one is from the bantam, and your BR was just "practicing" in the nest. The new one you have is probably from the BR. (the large light brown one)
