Barred Rock lovers thread

The hatchery where I ordered my Dominique pullets had a "hiccup" and rescheduled the ship date a month later to March. They arrived in perfect health and have never been sick.I haven't lost a single one. Skip forward 3 months later:

Substitutions were obviously made because I have chicks that look a like but have different combs. Some have straight combs and others have rose. Ironically the friendliest and my favorite is one I thought might be a rooster and still not sure but I do know its a Barred Rock because its got yellow legs and a straight comb.
Time will tell what they really sent you lol. If you just keep them for eggs then it doesn't much matter if it's a CA Grey, a barred rock, a dominique, or otherwise.

The "farm" deliberately sent us "sexed" "lookalikes Dominiques" from a different bin and labeled them as Dominique pullets on the shipping label hoping we wouldn't notice or care or complain. I've asked for a refund because I'm not in it for the eggs.I wanted to help save the Dominique breed which is on a watch list.

I might add its hard to help save a breed that has a twin thats more popular especially when you have farms that push the more popular ones on you thru deceptive practices.

My barred rocks are very interesting birds.

They're friendly, and docile. They're the kind of birds who just want to eat and watch what you're doing. Mine like pecking at my camera, too. They don't like pets or cuddles, but they do enjoy hanging out near you..

Which hatchery was it so we know not to order from them?

I'd read the owner of Purely Poultry raised Dominiques so I felt it was safe to order a flock of Dominiques from them but was wrong. Because no hatchery has the room or facilities to raise as many breeds as they sell this can happen to anyone anytime .This was the 1st time it ever happened to me and the last. So even though this hatchery has good customer service I won't be placing anymore orders with them(or the others).Their notification of shipment is horrible. You will have no idea when they're shipping them, they won't give you an exact day.I got an email the night before around 11 pm and the chicks were at the post office the next morning.
