The lady I got her from said she was a Barred Rock. Her legs and feet are black? She also has an awful lot of red around her face, she is a "SHE" right? lol Either way, I don't care what breed she is. She is awesome! So what do you think? Barred Rock or Dominique?

I thought Barred Rock had yellow legs? I'm thinking maybe a Cookoo Marans. Coloring is pretty bright so yes it does look more like a Barred Rock but the leg color isn't right. Not seeing saddle feathers & the bird looks pretty mature age wise.

I don't think it's a pure barred rock. The legs are dark, the comb is a little wonky and the barring is not good. I think it had one barred parent and time will have to tell if it's a pullet or cockerel.

Thank you every one. This chick is 6 weeks. Does this help with deciding whether its a female or male? What about those black feet and legs? A friend told me his female Doms have black legs, where the males are more yellow. I will upload a pic of the chick when it was little. Maybe that will help you guys help me.. :) I think this chick is too young to see the Saddle Feathers. Am i correct about that? How old does the chick have to be to see the saddle feathers? I really would like to hear your answers on this..Id appreciate it :)

The breeding on many of these birds is simply not that true to breed standards. Over the next week, those wattles may really pop and if the comb reddens as well, you can be fairly certain you have a cockerel.

The differences between a pullet and cockerel at 7 weeks is pretty dramatic and it just become more noticeable at 12 weeks.

It looks like a Dominique to me. I have 4 Dominique pullets, 1 Dominique cockrel and 1 Barred Rock hen. Yours definately has the softer looking wider bars of a Dominique pullet. The Dominique roo with have a longer tail, more white in his barring, and a v-shapped barring in the tail... atleast mine does.
