This is a bit off topic but I have a few mixed breed chicks (out of a group of nine) that look very similar to the top two photos. I just created a thread about the chicks in question, actually (have more photos there). Maybe you could give me an idea of what they may be a cross of? Thank you!

Barred Rock males crossed with Rhode Island Red or New Hampshire females sometimes, albeit very rarely, produce whie offspring with black in the neck, wing and tail areas...From these sports came the Delewares in the 1940's...I do not know enough to explain the genetics..Someone here can though..

My rooster look just like the one above dad was a beautiful perfect barred rock and mom Rhode Island Red some of his sisters are barred no red in them but are not a bright white barred color more like a grey with black barred rock.

I think we are also looking to find out if they are an actual named breed or consider a mad up name like ex. Barred Rhode Island Red

I have a rooster that looks just like yours.

His dad was a beautiful big Barred Rock (MEANER THAN A HORNET) and his mother a Rhode Island Red

He has a few blood red feathers and is in charge of his ladies and protects them only when need, Not a nasty bird.

His brother which is All Barred Rock is Nasty Mean though, like the father was.

I hatched some chicks this spring from my flock. I have several RIR hens and a Barred Rock roosters. I ended up with a couple of very pretty pullets. They are red with small black and white bars. I will post a picture if you like. I had a couple of black and barred cockerels, but I also have a few Black Australorp hens so not sure if they were from them or the RIRs.

I have eggs in the bator right now that are crosses. I am on day 13
Here is the dad

and the moms (not the light chicks). RIR (hatchery), Australorp (hatchery), and black ones that look like the Australorp but are a backyard mix of I don't know what and BR.

If you mix a barred rock chicken with rhode island red and some chicks turn all barred rock doesn't that make the chick pure barred rock. Also doen't gentics work this why all femals chicks the colour of the dad and all male chicks the colour of the dominate colour and a bit of the female mom colour blending in the male chicks, l know that pigeon genetics work like that but do chicken colour genetics work that why too. Aso l know in pigeons the mom carrys one copy of colour genes and the male carrys two copys of colour genes is it the same with chickens.thanks.

I read through all the posts here. We bought eggs simply for getting laying hens and chose a farm that had BR and RIR. At this time of year they let all the chickens be together. We don't really care since like I said we'll be keeping all the hens no matter what they are and decide on roos later. Here is a picture of what we have as of this morning. Just wondering what you can tell me about what we type of chickens we might have knowing that the roosters could be BR or RIR. I'm really just beginning to learn about chicken genetics.
The reddish brown should be RIR, right?
The all black are black sex link?
The ones with the stripes down their back? Are they a cross?
