Barred rock sex--4-5 weeks

I'm not entirely convinced that Chick 1 is a cockerel. While it is definitely more white than the other chick, I'm seeing some pretty thick black bars on it, too.
You might have one 'lighter' than average and one 'darker' than average pullet. Like these two. These two are both laying eggs.

I guess we'll just have to see if someone starts crowing or laying! Fingers crossed for laying

10 week update. What do y'all think?

I would have guessed hens on the original post, the last update shot still hasn't convinced me otherwise. Here's my roo at 6w:

Girl, left. Boy, right. About 4w. You can see the girls legs, the banding, the obvious thick white on the boy.

Boy, left. Girl, right at about 8-9 weeks

My male at 9 weeks:

And then at about 20 weeks...

Hope this helps some. :) Enjoy them! I'm loving my barred rocks, both of my females and my roo! One of my girls just started laying and her eggs are bigger then my RIR eggs, and she's been laying for 2 weeks haha. My girls are very similiar in band color, but I can tell them apart because their faces are different. One has a more scrunched up and less red comb while my 2nd girl has a more straight if a bit flopped over and deeper red comb. :) It's better having a bit of differences, easier to tell them apart!

Also, I'm pretty sure males keep the pure orange beaks, girls beaks tend to have black splatches on them. It's not an exact science, there's always a fun one that likes to do things crooked, like some boys having darker black legs when they're supposed to be more pure orange with very little black.. lol.

Pretty birds and great pictures! I love our barred rocks. They are the smartest of all our birds and seem to be the best foragers. Great personalities, too

MyMonsters91, your birds are GORGEOUS!! I have two 8 week old BR pullets. Out of my little mixed flock of nine, they have been my favorites since early on. They are so friendly and seek out my attention constantly. They're more like a cross between a parrot and a puppy. Love all my chickies but the BR's stole my heart.

Do you all have any guesses on my 2 barred rocks? They will be 4 weeks tomorrow. The look very similar to eachother, one has a slightly larger comb and the other is a little slower to feather on it's neck/head, one had a larger less defined white spot on it's head at 6 days old when we got them, but no red in either comb yet. Hoping they are both pullets. They are our favorites. So sweet, one eats out of our hands and sleeps in my 5 year olds arms.
