Barred Rock Sexing- Please Help!

That's how mine are too. The combs don't worry me so much as the whiter barring in their front feathers. It is noticeably different than the rest of the body.

My barred rock pullets are 5 weeks old. Color is slight pink coming off base of head. Then the comb is yellow.

I am by no means an expert, but that is awfully white for a pullet, and from my understanding pullets have a black "wash" on their legs. Again, I'm not an expert, I am pretty new to this chicken thing.

I would go by comb with that kind of mix. Yellow combs are a good sign, so are ones that stay small. Sudden growth and pinking before 12 weeks = boy. I have one DEFINITE barred rock macho man cockerel and he is textbook. The other boys have not been so easy.

It is kind of irritating that none of the chicks I bought are what they were supposed to be. I don't mind so much what breed they are as long as they are hens, but I just wonder how stores can get away with selling chicks as Barred Rocks and Araucanas that are not even close to those actual breeds. I guess next time I will have to find a real breeder.

they probley got them mixed up with a different breed, it sometimes happens, even hatcheries sometimes mixes up breeds that look similar
