Hey
havent been online here for a while
But unsure with my barred rocks that I hatched
They were from 2 different breeders the fertile eggs that is but for 25 weeks look so different
Im not sure if its just the breeding or do I have a roo
As of yet not crowing and im sure 1 is laying just not sure who
The one with the bigger comb and wattles is the one im not sure about but still seems very hen,ish to me
But im new to barred rocks

They are the same age thou
but they look like hens then?
I really hope they both are
Getting a good size browish egg figured it was from the redder one just was confused with the difference for hens same age

At their age, you would definitely see pointy saddle and hackle feathers. I think it's just a matter of them being from different lines. I would also agree that the one with the more developed comb and wattles is probably laying but it wouldn't surprise me if both of them are laying now. If they aren't both laying, they will be soon.

The last run of barred rocks I had I ended up getting 2 roos. 1 showed himself early the other 1 looked just like the 1 you have now. He didn't develope quite as fast as the other I would say a good month behind the other.
If I had to guess I would say it's a roo.
Let me know if I'm wrong.
Are their any spurs developing? You would see little dots were they push out.

The first 1 a girl
The 2nd one is a roo. He's got the look he can't hide it. His face, tail, color pattern, and shape.
Sorry

I have to agree. To determine which one is laying, check the pelvic bones UNDER the vent. A laying hen would have room to lay 3 fingertips between the bones and so would a pullet if laying larger eggs. One that isn`t laying would only have room for one fingertip between the bones. No need to chase them down, just pick them off the roost at night.......Pop

Well Good news I caught barred rock in second pic laying today so cant be a roo
So pleased I didnt rush to rehome
So I have 2 hens just thought you all might like to know
