Barred Rocks Good Shepard Poulty Ranch

I am in Nevada, MO.

I just wish I could capture on camera the way they really look .... like in 3D .... OMGosh, pictures do not do them justice. I just love these birds. I have (well alot) of birds, and I have to say these are my favorites. Oh no, I can not believe I said that .... my other birds are gonna get jealous .... I do love them all, of course. These are ONE of my favorite breeds!

Can I get on your egg list Kathyinmo? For Spring?? Those are gorgeous birds. That roo is drop dead. Thanks, Anne

Well I am in Lebanon and have not known who around this area had better quality than I can get at hatchery. Would love to get some great standard birds. How well do they lay? Just as good as the hatchery birds? That was more of a curiosity than anything. Well I don't k.ow what you would want for some, or some eggs, could you pm me to talk about this a little bit. Would be very interested in spring. Would prefer birds, never been the best at incubating eggs. That is why I bought the silkies.

I have 3 trios (3 cockerels, 6 pullets), and they are not yet laying. Jeremy said he IS still taking orders, so I encourage any of you interested to contact him. His email is: [email protected]

As soon as I start getting eggs, I plan to incubate. Once I have my own flock established, I will be happy to share with others.

Your question about if they are good layers ..... no, they will not be as good a layer as a hatchery bird.

I didn't think they would he as good layers as hatchery type. Is Jeremy in Missouri? I am very Limited on my cash at the moment and don't know how long I will be limited like this. They laying was more of a curiosity than anything.

Jeremy is in Chambers, NE. I do not know where is at with his orders. I don't know if he is keeping a list, or has eggs or chicks available. You would have to email him to find out details on that. That said, I would imagine it would be easier to get some in the spring, as alot of molting happens this time of year, as well as fewer daylight hours .... which contributes to less egg laying.

What wonderful chickens. I wonder if when they are in thier full plumage and are laying if they are not as nice as E B Thompson had in 1910. He had Ringletts and Kathy you have Ringletts. Some of the most colorful poultry I have seen in years. For you who are new to this thread These are Frank Reeses birds from Good Shepard Ranch in Kansas, he has had them for 50 years. He got them from Ralph Sturegeon of Ohio and he got them from E B Thompson in New York in the 1920s. There are some of these birds in Australia but I dont think they are a match for these birds. Now the question is could theses be the oldest strain or line of large fowl in the USA? the World? 1900 to 2010.bob
