Barred Rocks!!

mine are all mean right now because 1 is brooding in everyones favorite nest, but normally they are pretty good. They seemed to have inspired all the other breeds including the leghorns to want to go broody too, pretty bad when the roosters start hiding

Ethel's 4 week old pics. She had to be held because gosh darn she is so curious and is just a blur if I let go of her. Oh and she has is quite the jumper. She can jump higher and better than her brooder mates can fly.

Dang it, Ethyl makes me want another BR! The SO says no though, because we can only have so many and Amelia (our BR) he says... Is kinda dumb.

She is pretty dumb. She's so food obsessed that she totally misses potential threats like hawks, trucks on the property, stray dogs, etc. But she DOES get every worm, caterpillar, lizard, salamander (!!), earwig, beetle, etc, within kicking distance. She loves laps and affection and she lays all but two days a month.

But she is pretty....dumb :(

How's everyone else's BRs on the chicken intelligence scale?

Mine are pretty darn smart. They've learned how to hunt earthworms. They will actually listen for movement in the ground so they don't waste time digging. They do the same thing to rotting logs. They'll give a few test pecks and then listen for termites and carpenter ants.

LOVE the photo! They are pretty darn curious at that age. Kind of like human toddlers...they get into everything they can.

All of my BRs are quite smart. I even taught a couple of them some tricks for treats...nothing major, but they learned their routines very quickly.

I have 12 B R and they are smarter then most people!. Very good layers and get along good with my geese

Hahahaha, ya'll make me crack up! Yea she is totally a toddler, clumsy, crazy, adventurous, but yet won't go far from me. Ethel is definitely smart as can be... she ALWAYS has an eye on me. I have tried and tried to sneak up on them when they dogpile at night to sleep. And she will always be watching me before I even get over to the brooder. And we joke that she is "testing the fences for weak spots" (Jurassic Park anyone) because they all look so much like little raptors right now.
