Barred Rocks!!

Binababy
I'm in FL and wouldn't mind giving you free Bared Rock eggs.
400

That is my hen.

Thanks for your response. I do have an incubator and I got a batch of free barn yard eggs from a friend. It is to be seen how they will fare in the incubator but they were not shipped through the mail. Indeed I also heard shipping does not do the eggs any good. So far I can not order all pullet heritage barred rock chicks, only straight run. I will need several roosters any ways.

That is great, I do hope all works out well for you:)

What is the benefit to having Heritage Barred Rocks?

Just one person's opinion, but the term Heritage means they are bred to the Standard for the breed. In the case of a line we have, it is continuous, pure bred line for over 75 years, perhaps longer. They are regal, gorgeous, quiet, rarely suffer the egg laying issues of production type birds sold by hatcheries and feedstores.

In short? They're the real deal. The barring is "test pattern" sharp. They are also much larger providing good meat. Those are just some of the benefits from having and breeding the real deal, as it were. Once you actually see, live, these heritage, pure bred stains of birds and you put your eyes back into their sockets and your breath returns, you sorta have a better understanding. LOL

They aren't for everyone. If all one wants is a backyard, pet quality bird, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Hope that helps.

It is not true that this line has not been outcrossed in 75-100 years.

It is a quality line. There is no disputing that.

I only know Frank Reese got his start in 1957 from Ralph Sturgeon of Ohio. They've been in the Reeses' care for a very long time. Whether Frank did line outcrossing or even a variety influx of blood, I do not know. I do know that the Reeses were committed to bred to Standard, high quality birds.

They've raised Turkeys perhaps for even longer and they do say that they have "freshened" the line from time to time, but still point toward their original Turkey line as the source.

George very likely knows more details than I do, that's for certain.

I am sorry that I brought it up. The quality and character is there. That is what matters. I like them a lot. They are a sight to see ranging on green grass. They are lawnmowers to. LOL.

Maybe I am wrong.
