A few pics from today......still thinking pullet?

Yes...pullet.
My avatar is actually of a BR cockerel. He was much lighter in color and his tail feathers took much longer to develop than those of my pullets. Plus his comb turned pink pretty early on, whereas my girls' stayed more yellow until they were quite a bit older.

Thank you! I love my BR girls :)

Here she is now, at 4 weeks. She's growing so fast! Thank you for your expert opinion, I appreciate you all, and LOVE this site. As a newbie that loves research and reading, BYC is perfect :)

Besides behavior, how do you identify individual pullets in a flock? I have ten, 3 weeks old, and my son wants to claim one for his pet. I'm ok with that, but the only identifying mark is little bald patch on his back from being over crowded and pecked at in the feed store bin. That's going to heal soon, then she'll be lost in the crowd...

I haven't been here in a while, in fact, my barred rocks passed away. :-( but in answering your question maybe you could put a leg band on her to identify? I know I had trouble telling Star and Tansy apartm right up until the day they left us. But thats just my thoughts. We used plastic zip ties. Just make sure to replace the ties as she grows.

I'm on board with using colored zip ties too, and I know of several people who use dye to mark individual birds. It eventually grows out and has to be replaced, but at least you can identify your birds with a single glance.

I've got a bad feeling about this... Hen or Rooster?

How old is it? And do you have more than this one to compare it to? The cockerels not only have more rapid comb/wattle development that turns red sooner, but their early fluff is lighter in color than the pullets'. Feather development is also slower in the cockerels, with the tail feather being especially slow to develop by comparison.
