I have a lovely tempered Barred Rock cockerel, and I today I brought home a gorgeous Barred Rock hen for him. I guess I could say that I am sorta 'taken' with the breed, too!

Where's your pictures of the pair-show them off a bit! I enjoy looking at everyone's birds!​

Do Barred Rocks brood well? Well, after looking at this link, I have come to the conclusion that all my BR's are cockerels, unless they "sex" slightly different from the Dominiques as suggested they will sometimes do. I wonder what I would get if I crossed a BR roo with an RIR hen? BARRED REDS maybe?

Hello Barred Rock Fans
I'm new to this thread and barred rocks. I raise Ameraucana and sell the eggs. my DH lamented last year we didn't have enough eating eggs as I was selling them for hatching so he wanted more birds. I suggested Barred Rocks because the egg color would be easy to not confuse with the money makers' eggs.
So I ordered 4 barred rocks, lost 1 to a hawk and have 3 left. they started laying last week. I have collected 3 eggs EVERY day from these pullets until yesterday....when I collected 4! More than 1 egg a day?! from pullets,?! is this normal? Is this the egg production I should be expecting from them?
Thank you for your responses as I am failingly unfamiliar with this breed.

Do you guys think this chick is a Barred Rock? There's not really a white spot on its head and it doesn't really look like the other BR we got, plus it's alot smaller than the rest (its a week old)

Plymouth Rock is the breed name. Barred Plymouth Rock is a variety of Plymouth Rocks

Varieties of Rocks are: Barred, White, Partridge, Buff, Silver-Penciled, Columbian, with some off-shoots of those that are Blue, Black, Buff Columbian, and ect... I'm sure. Does that help you any?
